Conflict of interest in online point-of-care clinical support websites

About the Study

Researchers sought to assess point-of-care, evidence-based medicine websites and their ethical issues. They assessed the role of conflict of interest in UpToDate and DynaMed, two widely used evidence-based clinical reference tools. They recorded all conflicts of interest in six articles detailing treatment.

Reported Findings

What they found was that all articles from UpToDate demonstrated a conflict of interest. In some cases, the editor and author would mention a drug company within the article who they had a financial relationship with. In contrast, no author or editor on the DynaMed website had a documented conflict.
