Conflict of Interest Policy
In accordance with our mission statement, the goal of DynaMed Plus is to provide the most useful information to healthcare professionals at the point-of-care.
DynaMed Plus is committed to creating high-quality, relevant, and practical medical and consumer health information. To maintain our evidence based methodology and philosophy it is important that content being produced is free of the control of commercial interests and any conflict is resolved before producing the content. It is our standard practice to disclose all relevant financial relationships of our contributors to our users. These practices ensure that the format, content and related materials will promote improvements or quality in healthcare and not a specific proprietary business interest.
Our standard financial disclosure form collects information from all contributors and their partner/spouse on relevant financial relationships with an ACCME-defined commercial interest. The ACCME defines a commercial interest as any entity producing, marketing, re-selling, or distributing health care goods or services consumed by, or used on, patients. Contributors may include medical writers/editors, topic editors, section editors, and deputy editors. Refusal to provide relevant financial information by those who create content will result in those individuals being excused from participation.
Disclosure forms are collected on a yearly basis. They are subsequently evaluated by the internal editorial team and TUSM OCE. Deputy editors are tasked with ensuring that content published in DynaMed Plus is free of conflicts of interest and represents the highest quality evidence available. If conflicts are identified, we may:
- Remove the individual with a conflict from contributing
- Revise the role of the individual so that their relationship is no longer relevant to the activity
- Have the content reviewed by editorial managers to establish an absence of bias
We work hard to ensure that content presented in DynaMed Plus will be free of commercial bias. No product, service, or therapeutic option will be over-represented when comparing competing products, services, and therapeutic options. We also follow a strict editorial process that allows us to ensure that all information included in DynaMed Plus is based on appropriately sourced and highest quality evidence. In addition, disclosures of all relevant financial relationships are available within each DynaMed Plus topic in the special acknowledgements section.
